When I take photographs on a trip to another country or another city, I often give myself a theme to form a sequence of images.  In New England I took lots of photographs of fire hydrants.  In Venice more recently, it was shrines.   I always take photographs of skulls, whenever I see them.

In Rome I looked for old Fiat Cinquecentos, but I thought of this half way through, and besides - they are becoming hard to find.  I never set myself the task of finding images of birds, but looking through my photographs, I discovered rather a lot of them.

Roman holiday

We have just returned from a short trip to Rome.  It was the half term holiday here and it was also my son's birthday.  We had originally intended to go to Wales or Scotland, but looking at the weather we have returned to, I'm glad we chose Rome instead.

We had been to the city once before as a family, but my son was only a small boy then and could remember very little of that holiday.  There is so much to see that a month wouldn't be enough and we only had five days.  I think I will blog about a couple of specific things in the next few days, but in the meantime, here is a little glimpse of what we got up to.
